It is not a common known fact that Hair On Cowhides derive from the Food Chain industry. Most every cow hide comes from either Argentina or Brazil, the two leading countries that are known to produce the finest quality cow hides in the world, also supplying the world with majority of our meat.

We are proud to kind of “recycle” what is left of this industry and transform it into a usable and decorative item. Hide tanning, which is one of the oldest processing industries from ancient times, when man naturally used the hides for warmth and clothing after having used the animal’s flesh for nutrition and survival purposes, is the process in which the hide is changed into a soft pliable desirable product. When done properly this will strengthen the hide and helps to keep the natural hairs from falling out due to wear. The Hide-tanning process does not leave behind any unnatural smells of chemicals or dyes when done properly. At the same time, it is important to comprehend, that we are in the presence of a totally Natural Product. These cowhides are not made of a synthetic fiber or natural cloth, this way, explaining that usually no two cowhides are alike. Sometimes opposite and mostly different to most of North American and European cattle, which today live under “luxury” under roof establishments and feed lot “restaurants”, South American bovine cattle grazes loose in green Pampa prairies and hills, but having to go through all four seasons in the natural outdoors, sometimes having to support temperature changes, climate issues and consequences of long droughts and/or floods. Their outside skin (“the hide”) suffers of natural tears and scratches while protecting the cattle from these sometimes harsh exterior factors. Sometimes cowhides will also be sporting an owner brand on their side. This was done so others knew who owned that cow. This being said, any natural blemishes found on a cowhide does not in any way effect the quality of the product. Simply stated it just adds to the character and uniqueness.

These facts about cowhide evade most peoples thinking when they consider purchasing a cowhide product. You simple can not walk into a store and grab identical cowhide products. Just the same as no two humans are alike. Since the cowhide product, be it a rug, pillow, throw, etc. can not be duplicated in some factory somewhere, they are all unique, with their own special patterns and characteristics. All this makes a cowhide rug or accent pillow a perfect choice for your next purchase.
