I sometimes get emails from people asking me about the Nutrisystem family plan. They want to know how it works, what is costs, and what are some of the advantages of it. I will go over these topics in the following article.
The family plan is designed so that you can go on the diet at the same time as others in your household. The idea is that you can support each other and experience the process together. I think this is a great idea because I have always found it helpful to go through dieting and weight loss with someone close to me. That way, you are not only kept accountable, but you have a built in support system from someone who likely knows you better than anyone else.
It appears to me that most of the people who take advantage of the family plan are married. However, this is not a requirement. You just have to have the same address as the person who will be on the family plan with you. This could cover any number of relationships, from roommates, friends, romantic relationships, siblings who live under the same roof as you, etc.
You get a discount for joining together as well as support meant for people on this joint plan. Here are the logistics about how it works. One person will place their applicable order. Let’s use a scenario where a husband and a wife are ordering the family plan for the first time. The wife would make the initial order. She could order any plan off the menu (examples are women’s basic, women’s diabetic, women’s flex, women’s select, and vegetarian.) She could still customize her order and her menu if she wanted to. The only thing different about the ordering process is connecting the two accounts.
Once the wife placed her order, she would notice a little prompt asking her if she wanted to connect another order for a family plan. All she has to do is accept and then proceed to place her husband’s order. Like his wife, the husband can chose whichever package he wants (although he would order his package off the men’s menu rather than the women’s menu.) He doesn’t have to choose the same thing as his wife and he can also customize his package as he sees fit.
Most of the time, they offer you the incentive of money off of one of the orders for being part of the family plan. Often, it is $50 off. They do allow you to pay separately if you would like. And they do ship your orders separately so that things don’t get confusing when you are trying to figure out who gets which foods. I imagine it would be much easier to give each person their own shelf in the pantry so you don’t get your foods mixed up. You can also take advantage of counseling individually. Basically, your accounts are connected allowing you to get the discount and to support one another, but Nutrisystem treats you as individuals as far as shipping and support.
