When we arrived, we parked in front of the garage. We got at the church.

The Church, an imposing edifice, was absolutely beautiful, and the marvel of architecture, craftsmanship, and construction of this English Tudor Gothic style {or Perpendicular Gothic} was magnificent – reminiscent of castle-type construction from the Middle Ages. The main entry was arched and had within it two large doors that were arched as well. Above this entrance was an exquisite stained-glass rose window. All covered by a gabled roof with stone lintels and sills at the ends and topped with a cross. Enclosing this remarkable entryway were twin columns on either side that rose above the roof they surrounded with attached brick piers at each corner. The entry level was fabricated using concrete blocks (or cinder blocks) with arched windows with concrete lintels that unite them with the arched entry. The second level was constructed with architectural-faced brick walls, with circular windows above each of the arched windows below, and in line with the large rose window in the center. As the columns rose, there was a series five more arches with arched windows set with two of these. The top levels of the columns were fabricated with brick and mortar, two louvered arches on each side, rounded piers at the corners and brick piers in the center of each side. Tall spires with cross crowned the corner piers, while shorter spires cap the center ones. From the rear of the church raised the soaring bluestone steeple, atop column matching the top level of the front columns and crowned with the main cross. A side entrance matched the front but without the side columns. The ridges of the gabled roofs were covered by decorative concrete roof caps.

The church was full of people.

Unfortunately, Junior and I arrived really late at the marriage because the weather was bad; as a result, there was a blocus on the road. We arrived at 11: 45 AM. We arrived forty-five minutes late.

After a while, we sat somewhere in the church.

After a couple of seconds, I heard the preacher said, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this company, to join together this Man and this Woman in holy Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church: which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence and first miracle that he wrought in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of Saint Paul to be honorable among all men: and therefore is not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God. Into this holy estate, these two persons present come now to be joined. If any man can show just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him now speak, or else hereafter forever hold his peace.”

He was also speaking unto the Persons who were to be married.

He said, “I require and charge you both, as ye will answer at the dreadful day of judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if either of you know any impediment, why ye may not be lawfully joined together in Matrimony, ye do now confess it. For be ye well assured, that if any persons are joined together other than as God’s Word doth allow, their marriage is not lawful.”

He paused for less than two seconds. He said, “John, wilt thou have this Woman to thy wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honour, and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?”

John responded, “I will.”

Then the preacher said to the woman, “Gloria.”

I was like what, what?

The preacher continued, “Wilt thou have this Man to thy wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor, and keep him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto him, so long as ye both shall live?”

The woman answered, “I will.”

The Minister said, ‘Who giveth this Woman to be married to this Man?”

They gave their troth to each other in this manner. The Minister, receiving the Woman at her father’s or friend’s hands, caused the Man with his right hand to take the Woman by her right hand, and to say after him as followed.

He said, “I John take thee Gloria to my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I plight thee my troth.”

I said, “What? What? What?”

Junior petted me on the shoulder three times.

The Woman with her right hand took the Man by his right hand, likewise said after the Minister, “I Gloria take thee John to my wedded Husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I give thee my troth.”

They again lost their hands; and the Man gave unto the Woman a ring in this wise: the Minister taking the ring delivered it unto the Man, to put it upon the fourth finger of the Woman’s left hand. And the Man holding the Ring there, and taught by the Minister, said,”With this Ring, I thee wed: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”

And, before delivering the Ring to the Man, the Minister said as followeth, “Bless, o, Lord, this ring, that he who gives it and she who wears it may abide in thy peace, and continue in they favour, unto their life’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Then, the Man, leaving the Ring upon the fourth finger of the Woman’s left hand, the Minister said, “Let us pray.”

Then the Minister and People, still standing, said the Lord’s Prayer.

“OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, On Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.”

Then the Minister added, “O ETERNAL God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, Giver of all spiritual grace, the Author of everlasting life; Send thy blessing upon these thy servants, this Man and this Woman, whom we bless in thy Name; that they, living faithfully together, may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made, (whereof this Ring given and received is a token and pledge,) and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to thy laws; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Then the Minister went on to add, “O GOD, who hast so consecrated the state of Matrimony that in it is rep resented the spiritual marriage and unity betwixt Christ and his Church; Look mercifully upon these thy servants, that they may love, honour, and cherish each other, and so live together in faithfulness and patience, in wisdom and true godliness, that their home may be a haven of blessing and of peace; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.”

Then the Minister joined their right hands together, and said, “Those whom God hath joined together let no man put asunder. “

Then the Minister spoke unto the company. He said, “FORASMUCH as John and Gloria have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, and thereto have given and pledged their troth, each to the other, and have declared the same by giving and receiving a Ring, and by joining hands; I pronounce that they are Man and Wife, In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.”

The Man and the Wife kneeling, the Minister added this Blessing, “GOD the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favour look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace; that ye may so live together in this life, that in the world to come ye may have life everlasting. Amen.”

After the marriage was over, “Now, I am going to see if you are not going to move on with your life,” Junior said. “It is Gloria, the girl that you have been waiting for for so long, who is just been married. I did not want to tell you that because I did not want to hurt you. It was her. It was her. Now, try to do something with your life. You don’t like to listen to people.”

“It is okay,” I responded with a weak voice. “That is life.”

After a while, the married man and the married woman were walking out with the Minister.

The married woman was pregnant. Her stomach was big.

Sandra was the Bridesmaid, and another man was the Best Man.

I walked outside.

“Gloria! Gloria! Gloria!” I said. “It is me, Djadensy Jean. It is me Dja. It is me Djadensy Jean. It is me.”

She said nothing. She put her head down. She said nothing.

After the marriage was over, I said to Gloria, “I had been waiting for you for so long. I had been looking for you for so long. I lost in a desert for thirty days while I was searching for you. I spent days without eating and drinking. I remembered all the things that we went through. That was why I was looking for you. I was waiting on you. I had been waiting for you for so long. But now, when I find you, you get married, and you are pregnant. That’s life.”

“I am sorry,” she responded as her eyes were watering.

“No matter what, you will always be in my mind because I remember all the things that you went through because of me. I love you eternally. Even if I cannot have you, you still preoccupy my life. Good luck in everything that you do in life.”

“You will never be forgetting by me too,” she said, “because you are my first love. We went through so much in our life for our first love. I love you. I love you. But I have some circumstances upon me now. So we cannot go together. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. You are my first love. I love you. I will never forget the man who took my virginity away.”

“We may not have chance to be physically attached in our life. But I believe that I will be mentally and emotionally attached with you. Our memories and our destiny will never give us the chance to forget each other. You will never be forgetting by me. Destiny doesn’t give us the chance to be together. So I simply will never forget you because of our memories. May be one day, we will be together as we were before. Life is not over yet,” I said.

“Okay,” she said. She hugged me and kissed me. She cried afterwards.

Junior and I drove the car to get home. When we arrived, I told her that now I realized that I had to move with my life. I would try to share my life with Catty.

Junior smiled doubtfully. “Good luck,” he said.

I called Catty, and I told her that I had to move on with my life now. I explained to her what happened to me.

“I love you,” I said to Catty. “Give me the chance to know what love is all about. Give me the chance to love again. Please share your life with me so that I could cope with this situation, this tribulation.”

She cried on the phone. She did not say a word, crying, crying on the phone.

When I asked her what was wrong, “I cannot tell you,” she responded. “I cannot tell you.”

I went to junior’s house and told him that Catty was crying after I explained to her what I went through because of Gloria and that I loved her. She was crying. She was crying, crying. When I asked her why she was crying, she did not want to tell me.

Junior petted me on my shoulder three times. He said to me, “Catty is Gloria. Gloria was the girl that you use to talk on the phone every day. It was not Catty. I did not want to tell you that it was her because I knew that she was engaged and was going to get married. If I told you that, I knew that you would die. I am sorry my fiend. Be strong. Life still continues.”

“That’s life,” I said with a desperate voice.

I made a phone call. I said on the phone, “I know that you are Gloria. I know that you are Gloria. I still love you. I will never forget you because of our memories even if our roads diverge. I know you are not Catty. I know that you are Gloria.”

“I still love you too,” she said. “That’s why I was crying on the phone. I did not know what to say to you. I still love you.”

I kissed her tenderly on the phone.

With confidence, with a lovely heart, with affection, with an intense emotion, with courage, with bravery, I said that to her, “I will never, never, forget you in my life. Even if I die, my spirit will continue to remember you on the next life. “

“You will never be forgotten by me too because of our memories, what we went through together,” she said as she was crying on the phone. “I love you. I love you. I love you.”

She kissed me tenderly and affectionately on the phone.
